‘Must Love Herbs’ Lauren May

Let’s kick this off with my most recent blog find, and what an amazing find it was!

I came across the Must Love Herbs blog by Lauren May via an Instagram post that made me genuinely ‘squeee’ out loud.

Lauren May’s Must Love Herbs blog is a charming insight into real rural Appalachian life. Lauren describes herself as a wife, dog mom and teacher. Lauren is also a super-keen gardener, forager, recipe developer and photographer. The blog is truly wholesome. It’s full to the brim with recipes you will definitely want to try, little craft projects and gardening posts that will make you wish you were relaxing in her garden yourself.

What a treat for me to have found Lauren's blog. I suggest you treat yourself and head over to take a look.  I have added some direct links to a few of my favourite posts and I can't wait to see more from her in the new year.

Forest Floor Tea Cake

This is the cake that led me down this delicious and dreamy path of discovery. I genuinely cried a little bit inside when I realised that if I ever did make this, it would never be as totally perfect as this one. This is ultimately the cake of cakes; it's a lemon balm cake with vanilla bean buttercream. Guess what…? It’s not the only dreamy cake on the blog!

Turnips & Roses

How wholesome do these little treats look? My daughter found a wild turnip on one of our last foraging trips, we didn't want to leave it behind so bought it home and popped it in a cup. We did water it mostly to see what might happen and to our total surprise it started sprouting and taking root right in the cup! Turnips are definitely something we are going to plant this year!

Garden Herb Focaccia

Look at this! I promised myself no more bread misadventures after the covid crisis sourdough bonanza. I'm not great at following recipes generally; I think this might be why my baking falls short of my expectations. I do love art, and weaving art into food is really appealing to me. This focaccia is a work of art, and is tickling my bread making senses again.
